Food and tea pairings

When we talk about "food and..." pairings, we very often think of "food and wine" pairings and not "food and tea" pairings. However, the range of teas and possible aromas also allow for many pairings for pleasure and without the side effects, with the dishes of your choice.

Pairings can be made with sweet products such as pastries, dry cakes but also with salty products such as complete meals or even cheese! It is also up to you, according to your preferences, to test and create your own pairings!

What are the rules?

Food and tea pairings, just like food and wine pairings, remain very personal. There are no strict rules. However, here are some pointers to know:

- A similarity agreement: pairing a food and a tea with common flavors. For example, a Sencha tea pairs perfectly with green vegetables.

- A contrasting pairing: pairing a dish and a tea by mixing different but complementary tastes. For example, an Earl Grey tea whose citrus notes blend perfectly with those of a butter biscuit.

- A fusion agreement: you have to associate a food and a tea with two distinct flavors to bring out a new impression. For example, a smooth and floral Darjeeling Impérial FOP tea with a blue cheese such as Roquefort or Bleu d'Auvergne.
